Wednesday 13th July saw the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Ayub, attend the 20th anniversary celebrations of Red Balloon, a very special children’s charity.

Well done to Bruno and the team at Churchfields Academy who had no gas for over a week but still managed to provide a full service with the support of the team at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Primary School. Bruno said “Some days we were doing six journeys backwards and forwards between the schools but everyone worked together to make sure the meals could still be prepared. I’d like to thank all my team at Churchfields, and Liam and his team at Holy Cross. Everyone was coming in early and working so hard to ensure that the quality or service weren’t compromised."

New noodle bar a big hit


In an attempt to further the dining experience for the pupils at Coombe Boys School, Ollie Hoile has used the street food recipes to introduce a "Cooked-to-order noodle bar".

Healthy Eating Week at Hardenhuish


To celebrate Healthy Eating Week, Mark Langley and the team at Hardenhuish School offered Exotic Fruit Tasting workshops. The aim was to encourage students and staff to try something new. A lovely selection of exotic fruit was on display and the event went down really well with pupils who were keen to give the fruits a try. This included Mangosteen, Rambutan, Dragon Fruit, Lychee, Star Fruit, Pomegranate, Tamarillo, Kumquats and Physalis.

It was great to hear about our catering team at Larchwood Primary School who put on their running shoes for the school's Sport Relief event. Staff had to run one mile round the school and raised £52. Straight after the run it was time to prepare the pupil’s lunches showing true dedication from the school chefs.

Over the Easter holidays, Colin Cane and his team were busy making Pabulum Smoothies. The aim was to create drinks that were packed full of vitamins but tasted delicious. Colin said “We are always looking for ways to make consuming fruit and vegetables fun and pupils love a smoothie, so it was really good to spend some of our holiday time making new ones to taste test this term."

For 2016 we’re really focusing on improving the dining experience across all the schools we serve. Last month we were delighted to unveil the first of our new feature walls at Rockmount Primary School.

It was time to celebrate at the end of last year when Pabulum B&I client, Stannah was awarded a bronze Green Apple Award. This was awarded for their efforts in improving sustainability in the Pabulum run restaurant. A special project was set up with the aim of eliminating landfill from this area of the business.

We must look to the future too and ask ourselves what this looks like and what does it look like for our clients?

Pabulum brings in business worth 14.7 million pounds


School caterer Pabulum is pleased to announce that it has renewed key contracts with twelve schools, giving a total value to the business of over 14 million pounds. Four schools, including Watford Grammar and City Academy Hackney, have chosen to retain Pabulum for a further five years, with these contracts totalling 8.4 million pounds. A further eight schools, including Bullers Wood School and Rickmansworth School, have retained Pabulum for between two and four years each, with contracts worth 6.3 million pounds in total.
